MCA, a music man, a human, a visionary. RIP →

FIRST AND FOREMOST, PLEASE CHECK THE LINK. ^^^

MCA was a great human being, he lived a life of greatness. He transcended racial boundaries in an opposite way; him and the Beastie Boys jumped into a heavily black run industry as a group of white punk kids from NY. Aside from this, MCA (Adam Yauch) was a practicing Buddhist. He felt that there was more to this world than hatred. Yauch was a lover of humanity. Im not Buddhist, but I dont think that the idea of love over all is wrong. I feel it is important to transcend into our everyday lives, including politics. Understanding that I am supposed to be the music correspondent on this blog, I feel that this is appropriate for todays post. MCA, we lost you Friday, I’m deeply saddened. But, Ch-ch-ch ch-ch-check it out, I hope people as a whole can learn a lot from an inspirational life such as yours. A man who stared cancer in the face like so many others in this world; a man who took on the battle with an open heart.

“When life runs at 33 revolutions per minute.”

April 21, 2012 is officially Record Store Day.  This is the one day that independently owned record stores and artists celebrate the art of music.  The sale of physical copies of records and music is the name of the game. As stressed by the film Vinylmania, the music industry had evolved so fast that holding a physical recording has all but vanished.  Support local record stores and what they provided and promote. Also if you have never listened to vinyl, give it a try.  It may be more work and take a little more space, but it’s worth the time.

OEDIPUS REX…CHIODOS… ONE IN THE SAME? I THINK SO!

Soooooo, here we are now, entertain us! (shut up NIRVANA!). Back to real life sh*t. Ever wonder about the evolution of entertainment? Well it began back in a land far far away (really just a long ass time ago). It began in Greece, back when story telling became more than just storytelling. It evolved from the simple tales into drama festivals, the first drama festival won by Thespis (this is where we get thespians from) either way along comes a man named Sophocles. He wrote a play called Oedipus Rex, a play where a man decodes a riddle and becomes king, he later finds out that there was a prophecy that he killed his father and slept with his mother. Upon discovering this fact, he removed his own eyes so that he could not bear the shame.

Either way, where am I going with this? Well I’ll tell you, the evolution of entertainment brings us to Music. Chiodos tells a story (I guess) back when I was in high school, I was super into the screamo/hardcore scene. I’m talkin girl jeans (I wore a size 7 and proud of it….), long hair that covered my face, sometime my hair was red or other colors, the white belt with the buckle to the side, and two sizes too small T-shirts… Needles to say I didn’t breathe well back then. Either way, here 7 years later, I find myself reading this Oedipus Rex play for the second or third time and one of Chiodos songs continued to play in my Head. That song is “One Day Women Will All Become Monsters” off of their album “All’s Well That Ends Well.”  The song is all about being pissed off at the women that ruined the dudes life and he takes his eyes out… really I guess thats the only similarity…. oh well.

Imagination at it’s best.  This project was put together by a London studio “Us.”  The amount of time put into this idea alone was tremendous.   The track was produced by “Benga” and 960 vinyl records were used in producing this stop-motion video.  Take a look and listen
